Artists’ Collections/Decollections/Recollections 2013/14.

Introduction.

In 2012 Ad Breedveld (*1948) of KKV (art*colony-veenhuizen/NL-North) was invited to present a retrospective of his art-activities for a reunion in his old primary school in the village of Frieswijk, near Deventer. Searching around in his archives he decided to reconstruct an installation titled “My Life in 15 Collections”. On 15 panels of 120 x 250 cm he showed and described his artistic-collectings-biography from 1954 till 2012. From sigaret boxes, post stamps and herbarium flowers to survival strategies of the bear, transindustrial manifesto’s and Neanderthalers in the Province of  Drenthe.  But his largest collection is probably that of  comparable gathering-outsider-artists in his memories.  Due to the installation in his old primary school in Frieswijk (nowadays a gallery and trainings-centre) he came into contact with Visual Artists Centers in Deventer (CBK-Kunstenlab) and in Assen (CBK-NieuweKolk/Vanderveen). And he got the inspiration to prepare a wandering-group- show of a collection of the concepts of ca 33 artists (from NL and worldwide) involved in the subject “Collecting-Decollecting-Recollecting”.  Professional artists who are themselves fascinated in their works  by the methods  of “gathering” and/or “distributing”. And  professional collectors of non-art-artefacts who are fascinated by “artistic” principles of “displaying” their collections and/or obsessions. 

This Newsletter No.1 is sent to you because you are sincerely invited to participate in the project.

Promotion Album.

Both Deventer and Assen Visual Art Centers were amused by the idea of a group-show with gathering and/or distributing artists. But first they like to see a promotion-album with the kind of installations, subjects and concepts that could take part in such a show. Now Breedveld wants to compose such an ad hoc promotion album to be  presented  in 2013 to art-show-rooms in NL and Rest of the World may be interested to  present such a show in 2014. In the album will be space for biographical information, statements about collecting-art, and personal sketches or pictures of work connected with gatherings or potlatches of  each participating artist. The album will be produced in a small but carefully made edition of about 60 ex. With the intention that it is worth to be enjoyed by insiders, even without the follow-up of the would-be exhibition. All ca. 33 participants will become an album, and the other albums will be used to promote the fundraising and realizing of the project: a group-exhibition in 2014.

Wanted: technical information and statements.

Our question to you is: Are you interested to participate in this project? If so, we need your following texts and images for the promo-album:

1. Your short biography and description of your artwork, ca. 300 words, delivered as flat as possible , by email in .txt or .doc.

2. Your statement concerning your ideas about the theme “de/re-collecting-arts”, ca. 200 words, delivered as flat as possible, by email in .txt or  .doc. 

3. Your (self)portrait in jpeg, bmp or gif. 

And 4. Example(s) of your collecting-artwork(s), in images, photographs, texts, collages, etc.

NB. The Album size  will be A4-landscape, all pictures if possible in JPEG. So the text-information-pages will be copied in bl/w,  and the picture-pages in full-colour. The Editors will be Ad Breedveld (KKV) and Paul Borggreve (Publisher/FndAA). Paul Borggreve/FndAA wil take care of layout and production of the Album.

Deadline of all Album-materials will be 15th March 2013 !!!

The Promo-Album will be presented in May-2013 with a small festivity, somewhere in Holland. The exact date, time and location are not yet fixed.

Financial strategies

As usual the costs are coming before the profits. Deventer and Assen are interested in the follow-up, but first they want to see a more detailed promo-album. Probably when the follow-up-show can take place in 2014, the preparing costs can be declared. Unfortunately that’s not-now already the case. The costs of composing and producing the promo-album will be around 600,- Euro for 60 copies. These costs will be rather sharp for “only-basic-pensioned” Ad Breedveld. That’s the reason that I’m asking you, if you want to participate in our project, you also are prepared to join the pre-investment. Many shoulders can make the burden light.  If every participant can invest 20,- Euro, then the Album-project will be covered. And your investment probably will be returned in 2014. If no Dutch or European Art- or Artists-Institute will be convinced in 2014 by  the up-to-date qualities and urgenties of our project, then anyway your profit will be a charming copy of an International Collecting-Artists’ Album.
